Spring Is Here.
The Road Is Open.
Let's Ride.

Every great ride starts the same way — you throw a leg over the saddle, roll out of the driveway, and ride toward something worth chasing. This newsletter is that ride. Welcome aboard.

My name is Lawrence Johnson. Army Veteran. My credentials aren't a journalism degree or a media company. Just have a love for moto culture and rubber on the pavement crushing miles, most of them in Georgia and the Southeast, on bikes I've loved and wrenched on and occasionally pushed to the side of the road when they crapped out on me. Much love to you all.

Red Line is built for the rider who actually lives and rides here. No filler. No fluff. Just the roads, the events, the community, and the stories that matter to us. Every Monday, straight to you. Let's get into it.

✦ Right Now — Spring Riding Is On
🌤 Conditions Check — Mid-March 2026

The mountains are open and the roads are clean. Mid-March in North Georgia means daytime temps running 55–68°F in the valleys, cooler through the gaps — pack a layer if you're heading up toward Suches or Blairsville. The Suches loop and Wolf Pen Gap are ride-ready. No ice reports on GA-180 or Richard Russell as of this weekend. That said, morning shade on the mountain roads can hold moisture — give it until mid-morning before you hit the technical stuff. This is prime season, folks. The pavement is dry and the traffic is light. Get out there.

✦ Road Spotlight — First Ride of Spring
"If You Haven't Done The Suches Loop, You Haven't Ridden Georgia."

This week's road spotlight goes to the ride that defines North Georgia motorcycling — the Suches Loop. It's the first ride I recommend to anyone who asks me where to go, and it's the ride I keep coming back to no matter how many times I've run it. If you live within two hours of Atlanta and you haven't been up here on two wheels, put it on the calendar this month.

The loop is centered on Suches, a tiny mountain community in Fannin County about 90 minutes north of Atlanta. The bones of the route are three roads: GA-60 north from Dahlonega, GA-180 (Wolf Pen Gap Road), and GA-348 (Richard Russell Scenic Highway). Wolf Pen Gap is the one that earned the nickname "Georgia's Dragon" — technical, tight, dramatic elevation, and the kind of blind corners that make you respect the mountain. The Richard Russell runs northwest toward the town of Helen with sweeping views and almost zero traffic. It's one of the most underrated roads in the state.

At the intersection of SR-60 and SR-180 sits Two Wheels of Suches — a legendary biker stop with fuel, food, and the kind of parking lot conversations that make you extend your ride by two hours. If you haven't stopped there, you haven't done the loop right.

Best time to go: Mid-week mornings. Fill up in Dahlonega or Blairsville before heading up — gas is limited in the mountains. Conditions this week: Roads are clean and dry. Give it until 10 AM on shaded switchbacks and you'll be golden.

Spring Maintenance Reminder

If your bike sat through winter, run through the checklist before you trust it in the mountains: tires, brakes, chain tension, coolant, and battery. The Suches switchbacks are not the place to discover your front brake pads are gone.

✦ Until Next Monday

That's Issue No. 1. We're just getting started, and I want this to be a two-way street. If you know about an event, a road worth spotlighting, a charity ride, a local club doing good work — send it in. This newsletter grows with the community it covers.

Share Red Line with every rider you know. Pass it through your group chats, your club pages, your riding crews. The more riders who find this, the better it gets for everyone.

Now close this email, go check your tire pressure, and get out on the road. It's a beautiful week to be alive and riding in Georgia.
